The list is in alphabetical order.  It is not in order of preference, nor is it an intended screening order.

The list is long enough for three-plus Marathons, because prints of some films may be difficult to come by.

• RELEASED:  Year originally released.
• CB:  Contributor of suggestion.
• THEME:  Whether it fits with our suggested "Alien" theme, according to the IMDB.
• Last Shown NBR:  Marathon that most recently screened the film (if applicable).
• Last Shown YEAR:  Year last screened at the Marathon (if applicable).
• IMDB:  Read more about it at the IMDB.

How the films were chosen:

• Six Marathon veterans, each with 20 or more years of experience, were asked to submit suggestions.  Two contributors, Greg Shay (left) and Lewis Judd (right), received "Veteran Attendee" awards at Marathon 30.
• In the best Marathon tradition, films of every decade were chosen.
• A mix of recent blockbusters, old classics, and highly entertaining B-movies was selected.  Entertainment value was a primary consideration.
• Care was taken to exclude recent repeats.  Most suggestions have either never been screened at a Marathon before, or have not been screened in a decade or more.  Any film shown after 1999's Marathon 24 was excluded from consideration.
• We don't all agree about the merits of every film, but we've got to sleep sometime!

How the Alien theme was chosen:

• The first round of suggestions was not made with any particular theme in mind.
• After 4 contributors and 28 films, plot keywords from the Internet Movie Database were compiled and analyzed.  It turned out that 11 of the films had an "alien" theme.  Once the theme was established, additional films with that theme were added to the list.
